When you know that someone believes in you and cares about you, it is easier to try new things.
When an entire school gives you that feeling, it creates a special bond and a tight community. We strongly believe in the critical importance of relationships for helping students grow, learn and develop trust. Robert Brooks , member of the Dearborn Professional Advisory Council, has written extensively on how meaningful relationships build resiliency in children. It is a fundamental tenet of our work at Dearborn. Staff members throughout the school are constantly focused on developing close connections with students and getting to know each one as an individual. It is this social network of personal connections that allows students to take chances and work on things at school that are hard. By highlighting the importance of respect and providing clear and consistent expectations, we create a special community with a common purpose: helping students become re-engaged in their own learning.
